Unit 3: "Fast, slow, stop, slow, fast" ACCELERATION!

Today we began lesson three. This lesson was about acceleration. For our lab we had numerous people sit on the danger board and we recorded their time in 5m increments. At first we were all having issues getting the board to actually make it down the slope of the hill. But eventually we got the data we needed and who thought that slippers would be a great "brake." Haha! We continued learning more about acceleration and added to our equation board not board. We learned the equations (d,a,t; ), (v,a,t ; ), and (v,a,d ; . We also learned how to format kinematic equations properly. The process starts like this:
1.Write down question
2.Write down givens-sketch
3.Choose right equation
4.(Plug)^3  and (Chug)^3
5.Box answer
6. Check to see if it makes sense
Relating to my title we also learned that when an object is thrown up the pattern of its acceleration is, fast, slow, stop, slow, fast. We got to see this when Mr. Blake was throwing the pen up and down.
My picture is a bunch of pictures combined of my brother during his soccer lesson. I thought about the pattern of the acceleration and realized that when my brothers coach would throw the ball up, every time my brother hit it, the impact would be during the slow period on the way down. Also when my brother made contact with the ball the acceleration of both my brothers leg/head and the acceleration of the ball increased.

I really liked how you were able to link our lesson to soccer! I never thought of it that way until now! :)

    1. Thanks jess! haha i didn't think of it that way either :)

  2. You did a really good job at summarizing what we did yesterday with the lab and what we learned! using your brother and him playing soccer is a really good way to show acceleration, it's really creative!
