Unit 7: Momentum!

Today we began unit 7, which is also known as the unit of momentum! We were first asked what we thought the definition of momentum was. Our group thought that momentum is the quantity of motion of a moving body, measured as a product of its mass and velocity. Mr. Blake said that momentum is basically
mass x velocity. We also learned that momentum is vector quantity! But the weird thing about momentum is that the variable that represents it is the letter "p." The units are kg• m/s. In order to learn more about momentum we did the collision lab, or well part of the collision lab. Where we tested how mass affects velocity! But the best part of the day was learning about how water balloons relate to physics. When we do a water balloon toss we have to make sure that we increase the time of impact so that the water balloon doesn't explode right away. To do that we have to kind of cradle the balloon so it has a softer fall.
In this picture all of my friends and I were at a birthday party in the North Shore! And part of the party was having a water balloon toss! This is exactly what we did today in class!
