So today we had our egg drop! Our
first idea of trying to put yarn in a cup and put the egg in the middle then
covering it with more yarn, then stuffing it inside of a teddy bear. That
didn't work I think because when it dropped it flipped onto its back where
there was less padding. So we were observing the other groups projects and we
saw that bubble wrap really helped other groups with the way it cushioned so we
thought we could use that to revamp our project. We got a cylinder container
that had a foam that molded to the egg and then we wrapped the whole thing
numerous times in bubble wrap. The force was put on the outside and on the cup too.
Sadly though, our egg protector
device didn't work very well. When it was dropped we thought it would be light
enough to not have a big impact, but since we put so much bubble wrap when the
device hit the ground it bounced numerous times. The forces acting upon this
was weight down and normal force up. The people who seemed to do boxes and put
lots of stuffing in worked pretty well. I think also because my partner duct
taped the foam to the egg it didn’t help because there was no cushioning. The
duct tape made the foam compress against our egg instead of providing extra
cushion. I also think that because our egg bounced a lot there was more force
put on the device again and again.
If we could do the drop again I
would do something like the other groups with the padding in the box. I thought
that the idea of a wider space with lots of padding was a good idea! I also
liked Cade's idea by putting something on the bottom to absorb the impact of
the fall. I also liked the idea of putting little weights on the bottom so that
it would stabilize the device. I think the resistance of the paper towels was
good too because it slowed down the device a little. I would use all of those
to create something that would protect the egg better if I could redo the
project.

Wow, you have a lot of great ideas for what you would do better next time, i'm sure it would work! It also seems like you really understand what went wrong, and how you could fix it, so that's good! :)
